The Florida Gators play their home games at Ben Hill Griffin
Stadium, more commenly known as "The Swamp" which
has a capacity of over 88,500 and is one of the iconic stadiums
in college football. Since 1990 the Gators are a staggering
95-7 playing on their home field.
While the Gators have had 3 Heisman Trophy winners (Steve
Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel, and Tim Tebow) they have only
produced 2 players that could be considered "iconic"
NFL players in Emmitt Smith and Jack Youngblood. They do,
however, pump out very good NFL players every year including
Fred Taylor, Jevon Kearse, Reggie Nelson, and others.
The Florida Gators have 4 major rivalries going with Georgia,
Tennessee, LSU, and Florida State. The Gators play in the
SEC which year in and year out is the toughest conference
in college football. When Steve Spurrier was head coach
in 90s his cocky attitude and the teams overall success
led to the Gators, while loved by their fans, to the distinction
of being one of the most hated teams in college football.
Their basketball team also won back to back national championships
in the 2006 and 2007 seasons under head coach Billy Donovan.
